This guide is divided into multiple sections. To get started you should review the section about how to play a round of golf with the TeeDroid Caddy mobile golf caddying application.
TeeDroid 3G for iPhone 3G is developed by our partner PDAscent Inc, you can find the support forums for the iPhone version of TeeDroid 3G at: PDAscent TeeDroid 3G forum.
TeeDroid 3G for iPhone currently supports the TeeDroid Play-by-Play mode allowing you to completely track your golf game. Remember to stand close to your ball location when setting tee ball or terrain/result as you current location is captured at those moments.
Do not turn off iPhone during play - it will automatically turn off the screen once your put it in your pocket. If you turn off the phone you will need to wait for re-init of GPS when you turn it on again.
The first thing you need to do after installing TeeDroid 3G on your iPhone 3G is to setup an account by registering a new account.
For those of you who just want to jump in and play:
- The first time you use TeeDroid 3G you will need to login with your TeeDroid account, if you do not have one: register here.
- You also want to configure your bag, click settings on the bottom tab. Then click configure bag. The top list show clubs with check marks next to them, the check mark indicates the club is in your bag and available during a round. Scroll down to the bottom list to change the order of the clubs in your bag, grab clubs and drag via the 3 hash marks. Once done just hit settings again.
- Next from the courses page (left icon/tab on bottom tab bar) click "View courses nearby" to find the course to play. This will search for courses based on your current location. You can also search for courses by name/city/state/country via the "Search for a course" feature. Tap the course in the list to download it to your phone.
- Tap a course on the main course page to start playing a round. For each round you can select type, the starting hole, whether to post scores in real time to TeeDroid.com, number of holes you intend to play, and from which tees. Click start round to start tracking your round.
- Once on course you basically repeat the following steps for each hole on the course.
- Set tee ball - this registers the location of your ball on the tee
- Select the club - choose from the clubs in your bag
- Set stroke result - input terrain/result of the shot you hit - stand close to where the ball landed as this registers the location again
- Repeat b and c until the ball is in the hole. The system will automatically advance to the next hole
To play a round, you must first download the course you want to play
to your phone. Simply tap "View courses nearby" to search by your
current location. Or if you want to download a specific course you
can search for it by name, city, state/province, or country using
"Search for a course".
If you search by your current location the application will pull down
up to the 25 closest courses within 25 miles or 40 kilometers of your
current location. Each course displays the type (public, private, etc),
the number of holes, and whether or not it has scorecards and or
satellite information set. Tap a course to download the course data
to your phone.
Once you have downloaded a set of course onto your phone you can arrange
them by clicking the edit button in the upper right hand corner of your
screen. Grab the 3 hash marks on the right edge to reorder a course. Tap
the red sign on the left of a course name to delete the course from your
phone. Tap done in the upper right hand corner once you have finished
rearranging your coruses.
First step in tracking your stats is to start a round. Select the
game type, starting hole, whether you want to post your round
stroke by stroke using live online scoring, the number of holes to play,
and the tee you will be playing from. Once you have made your selections
tap start round to begin the round.
On each hole the first action is to indicate the location of your tee
ball. Stand close to where you're intending to tee off from and
click "Set Tee Ball". The application will automatically advance to
the next state.
The indicator next to the middle of the green distance indicates accuracy of current GPS fix. Green indicates within 1 club length, yellow 1-2 club lengths, and red is greater than 2 club lengths.
Hit your tee shot!
After you have set the "Tee Ball" location (or Result as in the next
step) you select the club you used from the set of clubs in your bag.
This lets TeeDroid associate a particular club with a particular
club for stats purposes. Scroll the club area to see more clubs.
Proceed to where the ball landed (if possible, don't go swimming!).
Once you have reach the new location of your ball, click "Set Result"
and select the terrain/outcome of your shot. Stand close to the location
so that the distance measurement between your new and previous ball
locations are as accurate as possible. Certain results such as lost ball,
water hazard, etc require you to drop the ball. Follow the on screen
instruction to complete a drop. Scroll the result list to see more
results.
If the result is that the ball ends up in the hole, the application will automatically advance to the next hole. If not it will ask which club was used to hit the next shot.
At any point during the round you can check the statistics for the
current round. These statistics are updated as appropriate, i.e. either
once a qualifying event occurs or the ball ends up in the cup for a
hole.
If you would like you can access the complete stroke result
list for the round from the scorecard screen.
If you get kicked out of the round during play by answering a phone
call or switching to a different application you can resume a
round using the round screen. Access the round screen by clicking
the rounds icon in the bottom tab bar.
Tap on a round on the round screen and select "Resume Round" to
continue playing. "Post to server" sends the rounds score and
statistics to the server. "View scorecard" brings up the scorecard
screen shown above.
The first time you use TeeDroid 3G you will need to login with your TeeDroid account, if you do not have one: register here.
From the settings screen you can configure the clubs in your bag.
Touch the right edge of the screen to check or uncheck a club to
indicate that it is in the bag. If you do not see a club listed, tap
settings and add the club.
The bottom section of the bag screen lets you select the order in
which the clubs are displayed on the round select club scroller.
Ordering your clubs by most used can save you time during the round.
